Rescue operation in a dam area

The Geophysical Engineering Department contributed to the three-day rescue operation.

The Geophysical Engineering Department contributed to the three-day rescue operation, which was initiated  on Wednesday morning of January 27, 2021, as a result of the disappearance of the vehicle with two people in the Ayvacık Dam.

Head of Geophysical Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Emin Uğur Ulugergerli, Dr. Faculty Member Yusuf Arif Kutlu participated in the search activities with the instrumental support of ECAY, a tech  Company.

Prof. Dr. Ulugergerli stated that, as Geophysical Engineering Department, they were in the working area from the first day with the call of the Underwater Search and Rescue Unit affiliated to the Police Department. He stated that they got logistic support  from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and then they carried out the search for the lost vehicle by using the magnetic method.

Prof. Dr. Ulugergerli said, "We worked in coordination with the police forces in order to narrow the area, the research area covering a very large area was divided among the units and the search efforts were accelerated."
