Ç.O.M.Ü. Geophysical Engineering Department was opened in 2000.

The first students were enrolled in the academic year 2003-2004 for undergraduate level education. An average of 25 students graduated from the department each year since the 2007-2008 academic year.

In the spring term of 2001, parallel to the establishment of the department, a master's program was opened. The program, in which an average of 3 students graduated since the academic year of 2004-2005, still continues to provide education.

In the Spring semester of 2019, the doctoral program was opened and continues its education.

Although the number of faculty members varies depending on years, scientific studies are generally carried out in the fields of seismology and applied geophysics.
